Design and behavior pattern analysis of the scaffolding-based virtual reality educational board game framework for intergenerational collaborative learning in Taiwan

With the increasing global aging phenomenon, intergenerational learning has become increasingly important. This study developed an intergenerational educational board game framework combining multi-dimensional scaffolding, information gap mechanisms, and virtual reality technology. The research was conducted in January 2024 in a century-old temple in northern Taiwan, involving 48 young participants and 48 elderly participants from the local area, divided into an experimental group (information asymmetry mechanism) and a control group (information symmetry mechanism). The study analyzed the impact of different interaction mechanisms on learning effectiveness, IT anxiety, and collaborative communication and explored the intergenerational interaction behavior patterns. Results indicated that both groups showed significant improvements in learning effectiveness, reduced IT anxiety, and enhanced collaborative communication performance. Besides, the information asymmetry mechanism facilitated more dialogue and deeper collaboration behavioral patterns.
