<p>The evolution of medical mobile applications significantly improved healthcare delivery, offering unique access to health information and services. Although, over time, applications have become more advanced, the effectiveness and usability of such applications remain the primary concerns. To this day, heuristic evaluation stands out as the leading method for testing application usability. Considering the numerous available rules upon which evaluations can be based, it is crucial to select them prior to commencing the assessment process. Jakob Nielsen has defined ten usability heuristics as the foundation for heuristic evaluation in most usability tests. In this paper, a literature review is given on the heuristic evaluation of medical mobile applications based on Jakob Nielsen’s heuristics. This literature review aims to explore the usability of available medical mobile applications. The obtained results offer valuable insights into the most frequently violated heuristics and the severity of the problems identified by users. Furthermore, it was evident that enhancements within the field of medical mobile applications are essential. These findings present a foundational framework for refining or developing mobile applications within the healthcare domain to correct and prevent usability issues.</p>
