Readability of wikipedia pages on COVID-19

摘要

The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on the world’s health. In the current worldwide pandemic, health information is being produced, altered, updated, and shared at an increasing rate. Wikipedia is a popular source of health information. However, the readability of Wikipedia’s information about COVID-19 is still unknown. This article analyzed the readability of COVID-19 information on Wikipedia. A total of 36 Wikipedia pages on COVID-19 were analyzed with 7 validated indices. The results revealed that the text in Wikipedia pages on COVID-19 is difficult to read and is suitable primarily for advanced readers. All pages are above the recommended readability level, and none of the pages are suitable for the general public. The one-sample Wilcoxon signed-rank test and one-sample t-test found no statistical difference between the sampled pages of Wikipedia on COVID-19. The study recommends that the community improve the readability of Wikipedia pages on COVID-19.
