摘要

Research on multilayer plastic packaging (MLPP) continues to evolve and has become an interesting topic to explore. This study conducted a bibliometric analysis to disclose the research patterns, priorities, and future direction in the MLPP field. The methodological frameworks used performance analysis and science mapping (collect-merge-refine-analyze-visualize). Following the results, the number of MLPP-related publications significantly intensified sevenfold from 1990 to 2023. The high-frequency keywords are found in packaging and recycling, which emphasize waste management and minimization. Meanwhile, the MLPP topic has a research focus on packaging materials, packaging properties, applications in the food industry, and environmental impact. From the science mapping, the motor and basic themes in the MLPP topic are related to packaging. Although the usage trends of MLPP are still for packaging, a low recycling rate becomes a burden to the environment. Finally, this study also provides insight into MLPP research trends for future research, which include human health, safety, waste management, recycling, and responsible solutions from ecological and sustainable perspectives.
