摘要

This study explores the role of green entrepreneurial orientation in improving the sustainable performance of small- and medium-sized enterprises in the Chinese manufacturing sector, using the natural resource-based view and dynamic capabilities theories to frame the investigation. Green innovation is increasingly essential for firms to achieve sustainable development, as environmental practices have become an integral part of operational strategies. This study examines how green entrepreneurial orientation influences green innovation and the dynamism of green technologies, which serve as intermediaries to achieve better environmental, economic, and social performance. Data were collected from a sample of 350 managers in Chinese manufacturing SMEs, and partial least squares structural equation modeling was used for the analysis. The results indicate that green entrepreneurial orientation directly promotes green innovation, which, in turn, positively influences sustainable performance by strengthening SMEs’ strategic capabilities for environmentally friendly practices. Green innovation, in particular, emerges as a vital competence that enables SMEs to effectively respond to enterprise sustainability and changing environmental and market demands. This strategic orientation toward green practices highlights how dynamic capabilities, such as responsiveness to advances in green technology, can foster competitive advantage in resource-constrained industries. The results contribute to both theory and practice by highlighting the synergistic collaboration of green entrepreneurial orientation and green innovation to generate sustainable outcomes in a rapidly changing environmental landscape. However, the complex relationship between green technology dynamism and sustainable performance presents novel findings. This study paves the way for a better understanding of the dynamism of green technology by examining dynamic capabilities across diverse constructs and contexts. This study provides valuable information for managers and policymakers seeking to integrate green initiatives as a critical strategy for sustainable development.
