<p>Time-dependent behavior is an essential and pervasive process in rocks and rock-like materials. However, the common characterizations of time-dependent behaviors induced by different loads, such as gravity and seismic loads, have been rarely investigated. In this study, four creep tests and dynamic loading tests were performed to investigate the time-dependent failure behaviors of rock materials. Trimodal phases were observed in rock failure process in these two series of tests, and a clear pre-failure phenomenon was also indicated. Furthermore, consistent relations between derivatives of time-dependent deformation before the collapse and duration of the tertiary stage against time or loading-reloading cycles are revealed. In addition, the test results also imply that the evolution of failure process caused by dynamic loads is more dramatic than that in creep tests. This study can offer the significant references to understand the time-dependent rock failure behavior.</p>
