摘要

Focused cardiac ultrasound (FoCUS) is an integral part of emergency ultrasound. In order for FoCUS to be used competently and in a patient-oriented manner, theoretical knowledge and practical skills are necessary. In this overview, the clinical questions and the constellations of sonographic findings that can be addressed with FoCUS are described. The selection of content is based on the recommendations of the European Society of Emergency Medicine (EuSEM), the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), and the long-term experience of the author as an instructor and supervisor. The article is aimed at physicians with some experience with emergency sonography, who wish to begin performing FoCUS. Of course, practical learning of the skills (courses) and supervised practice with patients (supervision) are essential for the use of FoCUS.
