Subjektive Gesundheit von Notfallpflegefachpersonen – eine Querschnittstudie
摘要
International studies show that emergency nurses (EN) are exposed to stressors that have a negative impact on their health.
ObjectiveThe aim of the study was to record the subjectively perceived self-rated health status of ENs from acute hospitals in German-speaking Switzerland and to investigate the relationship between health status and age, years of professional experience, and a postgraduate degree program (PDP) in emergency nursing as an additional qualification.
MethodsWe surveyed ENs from German and bilingual hospitals using an online questionnaire that covered five areas: (1) self-rated health (SRH), (2) physical health, (3) mental health, (4) social health, and (5) demographic data.
ResultsIn all, 539 EN completed the survey, 87% were female, and the average age was 40 years. Eighty one percent of the participants rated their SRH as “good” to “very good”. Several physical complaints were reported most frequently by the youngest and oldest participants. Mental complaints decreased with increasing age and work experience. Among individuals with a completed PDP, signs of major depression were the least frequent.
ConclusionAlthough over 80% of EN rate their health as “good” to “very good”, physical and psychological complaints are frequent and severe. The results emphasize the need to investigate the subjective health of EN and to develop effective measures to improve it. Younger ENs and those entering the labor market may benefit from preventive measures and attractive working conditions enabling a good work–life balance.
