摘要

Introduction

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has guidelines for medical care for international football matches. There are also recommendations for special emergency medical care, for example in the case of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA). There were special organisational challenges during the European Men’s Football Championship (UEFA EURO 2024) regarding emergency care in the stadium and on the pitch.

Methods

In the run-up to the UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany, a comprehensive security concept was developed for the Düsseldorf location, which also provided for special emergency medical care on the sidelines. Special care algorithms were created and trained.

Results

During the five match days in the Arena Düsseldorf, a single assistance was documented on the sidelines. However, the experience with the developed care concept was rated extremely positively.

Conclusion

The developed and trained concepts for emergency medical care on the sidelines can serve as a best practice example for other sporting events, both in terms of emergency organization and medical aspects.
