摘要

The emergency departments of German hospitals serve as a central contact point for over 20 million emergency patients annually. To ensure high-quality patient care, specific requirements for staffing, equipment, and infrastructure are essential. These requirements are only partially addressed in the 2018 resolution of the Gemeinsame Bundesausschuss (G-BA) on a tiered system of emergency structures in German hospitals. Based on existing publications from national and international medical societies, the German Association for Emergency Medicine (DGINA) and the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DIVI) have developed comprehensive recommendations concerning the structure and equipment of emergency departments in Germany. These recommendations encompass medical and non-medical staffing, necessary equipment, construction standards, as well as processes and interfaces essential for efficient emergency care. Additionally, the recommendations address education and research, quality management, and public health surveillance in emergency medicine, aiming to advance the professionalization of clinical emergency medicine in Germany.
