摘要

At 5–8%, skin lesions are a common reason for presentation in emergency departments and represent a major challenge in acute and emergency clinical medicine. In the emergency department, in addition to a precise description of the skin manifestations, an assessment of the urgency of immediate treatment, the start of initial therapy, and, if necessary, monitoring of the patient are necessary. Some skin lesions are associated with a vital threat to the patient. As a dermatologist is not permanently present in most emergency departments, it is all the more important that emergency physicians recognize urgent dermatological pathologies. In addition to extensive skin burns, acute infectious diseases, and immediate-type allergic reactions, dermatological emergencies also include delayed, drug-induced skin reactions with pronounced clinical manifestations (e.g., drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms [DRESS], toxic epidermal necrolysis [TEN], acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis [AGEP]).
