摘要

A new algorithm called Shrink and Recover (S&R) combined with the Implicit Geometrical Method (IGM) is proposed for generating boundary-fitted structured volume grids. The method consists of three processes. Firstly, a surface grid is generated using IGM. Secondly, the surface grid is “shrunk” by applying IGM while allowing the surface grid to move freely, especially on the bow and stern profiles, until a surface grid of much simpler geometry is obtained. Thirdly, the “shrunk” surface grid is gradually “recovered” to its original form, at the same time generating and improving the volume grids on those surface grids by applying IGM for better grid quality such as smoothness, orthogonality, and clustering, until finally a volume grid of good quality is obtained on the original surface grid.

The algorithm is applied to two bare hull forms, one with a bow bulb and a pointed stern tube and the other with a bow bulb and a twin-skeg stern. The results indicate that the algorithm can generate boundary-fitted structured volume grids around objects of wide variety.
