<p>Science is always in development and this can excellently be observed in vascular surgery. More treatment options for increasingly older and polymorbid patients result from the development of endovascular medicine. The expansion of the treatment options can conflict with the economization of medicine, mostly triggered by implementation of the diagnosis-related groups (DRG) system. Also, the right of self-determination has to be respected in older patients: art of healing is also often a&#xa0;balancing act in vascular medicine.</p>
