<p>Hardly any other disease entity has experienced such controversial discussions, public assessment and interest in recent years as lipedema. In the meantime, one can get the impression that this is a&#xa0;kind of “fashionable disease”, a&#xa0;disease that almost exclusively women suffer from. Conversely, it seems as if this disease, which never existed before, has suddenly epidemically increased in a&#xa0;dramatic explosive way. At the same time it often confronts us physicians, who have never discovered lipedema in any textbook or publication during their training, in a&#xa0;completely unprepared way and then this year the surgical treatment of lipedema was included in the reimbursable catalogue of the health insurance companies, with an immense need to catch up in diagnostics! In this respect, this CME article is intended to be a&#xa0;contribution to a&#xa0;further training in the state of knowledge, especially for vascular physicians who are confronted with these patients in practice almost every day.</p>
