摘要

Background

In view of the shortage of skilled labour in the health care sector, relieving the burden of doctors by qualified non-medical staff is increasingly relevant. This position paper examines the delegability of aethoxysklerol injections for the treatment of superficial veins, in particular spider veins and reticular varicose veins.

Aim of the Work (Objective)

The aim of this work is to evaluate the possibilities and limitations of the delegation of aethoxysklerol injections for spider veins and reticular varicose veins to non-medical staff.

Materials and Methods

The current literature and legal requirements in Germany were analysed: to this end, safety-related and procedural aspects of sclerotherapy for spider veins and reticular varicose veins were assessed. In addition, a comparison was made of intravenous drug administration, which is already established as a delegable activity in Germany.

Results and Discussion

Sclerotherapy for spider veins and reticular varicose veins shows an excellent safety profile, comparable with intravenous drug administration, which can already be delegated in Germany. Severe complications are extremely rare, and the technical procedure shows a strong similarity to the creation of peripheral venous access. Under medical supervision and with the corresponding qualification, delegation to non-medical staff can contribute to relieving the burden on doctors and freeing up resources. Medical history, indications, information and responsibility remain with the doctor.
