摘要

The prevalence of arterial and venous vascular diseases is directly correlated to age. Peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) occurs in more than 20% of people beyond the age of 80 years, thus being the most frequent vascular disease in old age. Geriatric patients represent a particular risk group. The complex of geriatric symptoms can be described by a high dependency with respect to activities of daily living and an increased susceptibility to all forms of stress, especially in the presence of frailty. This has an adverse impact on the prognosis of PAOD in the stage of critical limb ischemia with respect to mortality and functional outcome, even after successful revascularization. It requires a differentiated approach even at the diagnostic level. The main therapeutic goal must be chosen accordingly and should trigger an appropriate treatment approach.
