Structural association of requirements engineering challenges in GSD: interpretive structural modelling (ISM) approach

Due to significance such as reduce cost and time, clients and vendors rely mostly on Global Software Development (GSD) in modern era. Due to geographical distance, there exist culture, language and time zone differences among clients and vendors in GSD. In GSD, requirement engineering phase is considered as very critical as it deals with all aspects of requirements that directly involve clients. Due to the stated challenges, effective and timely negotiation and implementation of requirements become a challenge. There is need to identify all list of challenges and structurally inter-relate these challenges in hierarchical order of priority. In this research study an Interpretive Structural Model (ISM) technique is applied to identify structural association amongst the challenges of requirements implementation in GSD. All possible challenges are identified via systematic literature review (SLR) where twenty challenges during requirements implementation in GSD are reported, the identified challenges from SLR were empirically validated from 50 responders of GSD via questionnaire survey. Then using ISM, structural association in these challenges were shown in different levels of hierarchy.
