摘要

Endometrial cancer is the fifth most common cancer among women in Germany and the most common cancer of the female reproductive organs. Around 11,000 women are diagnosed with the disease each year, with the average age at diagnosis being 67. The overall prognosis is favourable, as many tumours become symptomatic at an early stage. Key risk factors include long-term exposure to oestrogen, obesity, physical inactivity, diabetes mellitus, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), tamoxifen, tibolone and genetic syndromes such as Lynch syndrome or Cowden syndrome. Protective factors, on the other hand, include continuous combined hormone therapy, oral contraceptives, physical activity, a high-fibre diet and weight normalisation. Atypical endometrial hyperplasia, in particular, plays an important role as a precancerous condition.
