摘要

Background

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and malignant biliary tumors, particularly cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), pose a particular challenge in oncology due to their biological heterogeneity, the chronic liver disease that often underlies them, and the complex therapeutic decision-making involved.

Objective

What are the current and future guidelines for radiological diagnosis and interventional treatment of HCC and CCA?

Materials and methods

An analysis of the current German S3 guideline on the diagnosis and treatment of HCC and biliary cancer was conducted.

Results

This review article summarizes the current evidence- and guideline-based imaging of HCC and biliary tumors and presents the interventional therapeutic options in the context of the current national S3 guideline on the diagnosis and treatment of HCC and biliary cancer.

Conclusion

Modern imaging techniques now enable guideline-compliant, non-invasive diagnosis and staging, while interventional oncological therapies play a central role in the treatment of HCC and CCA, particularly in early and intermediate stages.
