Men are diagnosed with BC and die from BC three times more often than women.</p> Objectives <p>The work presents up-to-date results of the incidence of BC- and tumor-related mortality. It further demonstrates capacities of cancer registries to quantify morbidity and mortality resulting from neoplastic diseases in the population.</p> Materials and methods <p>Cancer registry data were used and included 5908 patients from Saarland newly diagnosed with invasive BC from 2004–2023. Observed rates of incidence and mortality as well as observed and cancer-specific survival up to 10&#xa0;years were reported for men and women.</p> Results <p>In 2022–2023, 44 and 15 invasive BC were diagnosed per 100,000 men and women, respectively. Two-thirds of the patients were aged ≥ 70&#xa0;years at diagnosis, 91% of the neoplasms were urothelial tumors, and 64% did not yet exceed the bladder (UICC stages&#xa0;I and&#xa0;II). Five years after diagnosis, 43% of the patients were still alive.</p> Conclusion <p>The results revealed significant tumor-related mortality across all groups of patients and particularly a&#xa0;higher tumor-specific mortality among women. It further highlighted the potential benefits of thus far unused opportunities for the primary prevention of BC.</p>

Background

Objectives

The work presents up-to-date results of the incidence of BC- and tumor-related mortality. It further demonstrates capacities of cancer registries to quantify morbidity and mortality resulting from neoplastic diseases in the population.

Materials and methods
