Background <p>Systemic therapy for urothelial carcinoma is undergoing rapid change. In recent years, numerous new drugs and treatment regimens have been approved for a&#xa0;wide range of indications. Currently, drug therapy is based on the antibody–drug conjugate enfortumab vedotin, immune checkpoint inhibitors, the fibroblast growth factor inhibitor erdafitinib, and classic platinum-based chemotherapy. Managing side effects, especially in combination therapies, can be challenging, but is essential for successful treatment and patient safety.</p> Objective <p>This review paper describes the management of side effects of drug therapy for urothelial carcinoma, with a&#xa0;particular focus on the new drugs enfortumab vedotin and erdafitinib.</p> Materials and methods <p>A&#xa0;literature review taking into account approval studies, guideline recommendations, specialist information, and the clinical experience of the authors was performed.</p> Results and conclusion <p>This article presents current treatment recommendations for urothelial carcinoma and also discusses side effect management, with a&#xa0;focus on the new drugs enfortumab vedotin and erdafitinib.</p>

Background

Systemic therapy for urothelial carcinoma is undergoing rapid change. In recent years, numerous new drugs and treatment regimens have been approved for a wide range of indications. Currently, drug therapy is based on the antibody–drug conjugate enfortumab vedotin, immune checkpoint inhibitors, the fibroblast growth factor inhibitor erdafitinib, and classic platinum-based chemotherapy. Managing side effects, especially in combination therapies, can be challenging, but is essential for successful treatment and patient safety.

Objective

This review paper describes the management of side effects of drug therapy for urothelial carcinoma, with a particular focus on the new drugs enfortumab vedotin and erdafitinib.

Materials and methods

A literature review taking into account approval studies, guideline recommendations, specialist information, and the clinical experience of the authors was performed.

Results and conclusion

This article presents current treatment recommendations for urothelial carcinoma and also discusses side effect management, with a focus on the new drugs enfortumab vedotin and erdafitinib.
