Background <p>Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) represents a&#xa0;heterogeneous group of malignant blood disorders that account for 90% of all malignant lymphomas. In Germany, they represent 3.6% of all new cancer cases in women and 3.9% in men.</p> Objective <p>Current population-based presentation of the epidemiology of selected NHL entities in Germany with a&#xa0;focus on incidence and survival, also taking socioeconomic factors into account.</p> Materials and Methods <p>Data from all German state cancer registries for the period 2013–2022 were analyzed. Patients who were between 20&#xa0;and 99&#xa0;years old at NHL diagnosis were included. Three cases of aggressive B‑cell lymphoma (diffuse large B-cell lymphoma [DLBCL], Burkitt lymphoma [BL], mantle cell lymphoma [MCL]), two of indolent B‑cell lymphoma (follicular lymphoma [FL],&#xa0;marginal zone lymphoma [MZL]), and three of T‑cell lymphoma (angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma [AITL], anaplastic large cell lymphoma [ALCL], peripheral T-cell lymphoma [PTCL]) were selected for detailed analysis. Socioeconomic influences were determined using the German Index of Socioeconomic Deprivation (GISD).</p> Results <p>On average, 8362 women (median age: 73&#xa0;years) and 10,132 men (median age: 71&#xa0;years) were diagnosed with NHL annually. DLBCL represented the largest group, accounting for one-third of all NHL cases. The relative 5‑year survival rate was approximately 65% for aggressive B‑cell lymphoma, approximately 88% for indolent B‑cell lymphoma, and between 36.1 and 74.3% for T‑cell lymphoma. Men were diagnosed at a&#xa0;younger age and partially showed higher incidence rates. No correlation was found between socioeconomic deprivation and incidence.</p> Discussion <p>This study provides the first current, population-based data on eight selected NHL entities in Germany. The differences in relative 5‑year survival of B‑cell lymphomas correspond to the classification into aggressive and indolent forms.</p>

Objective

Current population-based presentation of the epidemiology of selected NHL entities in Germany with a focus on incidence and survival, also taking socioeconomic factors into account.

Materials and Methods

Data from all German state cancer registries for the period 2013–2022 were analyzed. Patients who were between 20 and 99 years old at NHL diagnosis were included.
