摘要
Background
The treatment of early-stage breast cancer is evolving dynamically, with partial-breast irradiation (PBI) as a de-escalation concept for low-risk situations.
ResultsPartial-breast irradiation represents a guideline-based option for adjuvant radiation therapy in patients with low-risk breast cancer, provided proper patient selection and techniques are employed. The best data are available for multicatheter brachytherapy and percutaneous PBI, showing similar rates of local recurrences compared to whole-breast irradiation (WBI) as well as improved acute toxicity and disease-related quality of life.
ConclusionPartial-breast irradiation is an established alternative to WBI and also offers promising development opportunities.
