摘要

Background

The German Cancer Society certification program for cancer centers and clinical cancer registries are two major instruments for quality assurance in oncological care in Germany.

Objective

This article outlines the purpose and history of certification and clinical cancer registration, the associated data collection, and describes the collaboration and potentials for the future.

Materials and methods

This work comprises a narrative review.

Results and conclusion

Particularly at the documentation level, centers and registries can synergistically complement each other. Many of the mandatory variables for clinical cancer registration in the oncological basic dataset are also used for certification. At the same time, registries are required to report follow-up data to the centers. The potentials for collaboration are far from having been exhausted. Certification documentation is more flexible, and together with the longitudinal data from clinical cancer registration, there are promising opportunities for generating evidence with healthcare-related data. One approach is the integration of center documentation with clinical cancer registry data to flexibly capture and evaluate new developments. These possibilities are currently being explored in joint projects.
