摘要

Since multifamily therapy for adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) remains a largely unexplored field, a pilot project was conducted to establish the first multifamily therapy group for high-functioning adults with ASD and their families. In adulthood, issues such as mental health, relationships, participation in the workforce, independence, and detachment from the family of origin come into sharper focus; therefore, nine families with ten adults diagnosed on the autism spectrum participated in the group. The ages of the participants ranged from 18 to 62 years, and seven of the ten participants were concurrently undergoing individual therapy. The intervention comprised seven group sessions, supplemented by preparatory individual preliminary interviews and concluding evaluation interviews. The validity of the results is limited by several constraints which are outlined in this study. Initial, nonrepresentative results are now available and provide preliminary indications of possible positive correlations.
