摘要

Grief following traumatic loss rarely follows the internal logic that is hoped for. It is permeated by images that impose themselves and questions that cannot be answered. Many of those affected describe how their body continues to function whereas their soul has “stopped.” In our clinical work, this pattern repeated itself: individual therapy helped, often a lot—but time and again, there remained a desire for resonance, for testimony, for a form of shared coping.

Based on this experience, we developed a manualized group program that combines psychotherapeutic and art therapy elements in a trauma-sensitive way. Two case studies first illustrate the dynamics of individual work: symbolization, a measured approach, cognitive re-evaluation—but also the limits of the individual. Building on this, a ten-part group manual was created that provides security, enables an approach to be made, and supports integration.

The manual has been completed; it will be implemented in a pilot phase starting in 2026 and accompanied by scientific monitoring.

Bereavement groups in this form are not a shortcut—but they open up a space in which pain can be held, shared, and gradually integrated into the individual’s biography.
