摘要

The connection between medicine, the perception of illness, and music, as well as music in the hospital setting, plays a role in coping with illness and maintaining mental health. The music workshop Your Smile, organized as a music education seminar at the University of Music and Performing Arts at the Comprehensive Center for Pediatrics (CCP) at the University Clinic for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine (UKKJ), Vienna, is aimed at children and young people who need to be cared for in hospital for a long period of time owing to serious and extremely serious illnesses. This educational project is aimed at not only offering children access to music in pairs or in small group settings but also at strengthening their musical and social skills and giving them emotional support during a difficult phase of life. Instrumental pedagogy has traditionally focused on teaching in formal educational institutions till now, in this new educational, communicative, music pedagogical context the hospital setting is included.
