摘要

Schizophrenia is a severe psychiatric disorder that is characteristically associated with positive symptoms, negative symptoms, and cognitive impairment. Advances in pharmacology since the 1950s have made it possible to have a significant positive impact on the disease: Antipsychotics can significantly improve the positive symptoms of schizophrenia as well as agitation in acute psychosis.

In recent years, the topic of cognitive impairment associated with schizophrenia (CIAS) has become increasingly recognised. This article is aimed at providing an overview of the latest developments in diagnostics and therapy. This includes the description of comprehensive cognitive test batteries and short screening instruments relevant to everyday clinical practice as well as the presentation of measures for cognitive remediation and new pharmacological approaches.
