<p>Physical touch is central to psychological development. However, the use of physical touch between patient and therapist in psychotherapy is controversial. Positions range from a&#xa0;general prohibition of touch to viewing touch as a&#xa0;beneficial and important therapeutic intervention. The aim of this article is, first, to briefly summarize the significance of touch for psychological development and the different theoretical positions on touch, drawing on current literature. It then describes how touch is used in Concentrative Movement Therapy as a&#xa0;body-oriented psychodynamic school of therapy.</p>
