摘要

Psychotherapy is a central service in the healthcare system, it often alleviates long-standing mental suffering, helps to reduce medical and far-reaching economic costs and promotes the self-determined development of subjects in terms of their mental health. However, its value is not necessarily reflected in the position given to psychotherapy in the healthcare system. In the long term, psychotherapy—in parallel with physical medical care—must be given the status that corresponds to its benefits. In Austria, psychotherapeutic care is currently only planned by the social insurance system with regard to publicly funded psychotherapeutic services. General national planning principles, such as those within the framework of the Austrian Mental Health Act with corresponding quality criteria, are currently lacking.
