Climate and touristic comfort resilience model for the southern mediterranean coast: case of Algiers, Algeria
摘要
Tourism is a vital socio-economic contributor in Mediterranean regions. Recent studies have focused extensively on the climatic potential for outdoor tourism activities. However, the issues identified in these studies are not incorporated into the Tourism Climate Index (TCI), which has been repeatedly criticized for its weighting methodology. To address these shortcomings, a Climate and Touristic Comfort Resilience Model (CTCRM) has been developed using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). This model assesses the climatic suitability of outdoor tourism destinations, underscoring its importance in maintaining the competitiveness of both coastal and urban destinations. Calculations were performed at tri-hourly intervals for the reference period from 2000 to 2021. The findings reveal that the climate in Algiers is generally comfortable for an average of more than 180 days per year, approximately sixty days are classified as moderate, and the remaining days are categorized as uncomfortable.
