Background <p>Distal catheter migration and obstruction remain a significant cause of shunt failure after ventriculoperitoneal shunting (VPS). A fast and reliable distal catheter fixation can be achieved via a simple laparoscopic extraperitoneal reverse puncture (LERP) technique with minimum complications.</p> Method <p>In this technical note, we introduce the workflow of the LERP technique for a safe and reliable distal catheter fixation.</p> Conclusion <p>The LERP technique can provide safe and reliable distal catheter fixation and may help reduce distal catheter migration related complications in VPS.</p>

Background

Distal catheter migration and obstruction remain a significant cause of shunt failure after ventriculoperitoneal shunting (VPS). A fast and reliable distal catheter fixation can be achieved via a simple laparoscopic extraperitoneal reverse puncture (LERP) technique with minimum complications.

Method

In this technical note, we introduce the workflow of the LERP technique for a safe and reliable distal catheter fixation.

Conclusion

The LERP technique can provide safe and reliable distal catheter fixation and may help reduce distal catheter migration related complications in VPS.
