Leuwaldhof heute, ein Update
摘要
From June 2018 to the beginning of 2024, Leuwaldhof treated around 1500 primary patients and over 4000 secondary patients/accompanying persons and was able to demonstrate the usefulness of pediatric and adolescent rehabilitation (rehab) in the field of haemato-oncology by evaluating quality-of-life questionnaires. The beginning was difficult, because referring physicians did not know what possibilities or indications justified rehab and what advantages it might bring. With a lot of networking, lectures and introductory events, trust grew and the number of referrals increased. Then coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) came and we had to send families home, close the business for months, testing, wearing masks, keeping our distance, increased hygiene, etc. COVID-19 prevented continuing capacity utilization for three full years. When child and adolescent rehab started up again, the Ukraine war and subsequent inflation made things more difficult for the operators. Despite all these difficulties, the children’s and young people’s rehabilitation center has become a success story and continues to grow.
