EDDY – Ernährung leicht gemacht
摘要
The EDDY (Effect of sports and diet trainings to prevent obesity and secondary diseases and to influence young children’s lifestyle) project in Vienna aims to address the globally prevalent issue of childhood obesity and adiposity, with the World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizing the crucial nature of preventive measures before the age of 12. Financed by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science, and Research, this preventive project targets not only increased physical activity but also aims to enhance the nutrition knowledge and behaviors of students through a scientifically grounded school program. Studies indicate that children often possess inadequate nutrition knowledge and tend to assess foods based on their appearance and taste rather than their nutritional content. The nutrition intervention employs various teaching methods and approaches to impart practical skills, promote healthy eating habits, and deepen students’ nutrition knowledge. While some positive changes in students’ dietary behaviors were observed after 6 months of intervention, significant differences have yet to be determined. The duration of the intervention and parental involvement could be crucial factors in enhancing program effectiveness. Closer collaboration with school administrations and incentives to encourage parental participation may also be essential. Overall, the findings underscore the importance of well-planned nutrition interventions.
