Secure and scalable IoT healthcare with a permissioned blockchain and encryption techniques

The adoption of internet of things (IoT) devices in healthcare has significantly improved patient care but has also introduced pressing concerns regarding data security and access control. Existing studies highlight critical vulnerabilities in current healthcare systems, alongside the challenge of achieving a balance between scalability, security, and decentralization when implementing blockchain solutions. In this work we present a tailored blockchain architecture designed to mitigate IoT-related security issues in healthcare while addressing the blockchain trilemma. Emphasizing access control and data management, the proposed framework ensures the confidentiality and protection of personal data within the Health Record System (HRS). Built on the Hyperledger Fabric framework and evaluated through the Caliper benchmarking tool, the system integrates encryption methods to secure data exchanges. Performance results demonstrate its scalability and effectiveness, showcasing its potential as a reliable and secure platform for managing healthcare data.
