New circumscription of series Corymbosi (Senecio, Asteraceae) from southern South America using morphometric analysis
摘要
Senecio series Corymbosi (Asteraceae) consists of 158 southern South American species. The current infrageneric classification system is re-evaluated under a morphometric analysis using UPGMA method for the construction of the dendrogram and NMDS analysis to represent the structure of similarity or dissimilarity between species. Thirty-seven vegetative and reproductive characters were scored using 354 herbarium specimens, including types. Results of the clustering analyses confirmed three distinct phenetic subseries of the nine previously recognized, i.e. Brasilienses, Glabrati, and Viscosi. They are mainly subshrubs or shrubs, glabrous or glandular with entire to bipinnatisect leaves, and usually radiate capitula in corymbiform capitulescences. Nineteen species previously placed in series Corymbosi are excluded mostly by its discoid capitula. They are: S. adrianicus, S. calingastensis, S. dryophyllus, S. eruciformis, S. gynoxoides, S. hakeifolius, S. hastatifolius, S. hjertingii, S. leptoschizus, S. manguensis, S. oreinus, S. pentlandianus, S. pseudopohlii, S. quinquelepis, S. reicheanus, S. sectilis, S. socompae, S. tripinnatifidus, and S. wedglacialis. Lectotypes are newly designated for Adenotrichia amplexicaulis (= S. adenotrichius), Senecio alcicornis, S. berteroanus var. obtusus (= S. cerberoanus), S. brunonianus, S. cumingii, S. hakeifolius, S. lanifer, S. leptoschizus, S. linearilobus, S. oligoleucus, S. paulensis, S. pohlii (= Pseudogynoxys pohlii), S. pulicarioides, S. serenensis (= S. brunonianus), and S. sinuatilobus. Epitype is designated for Adenotrichia amplexicaulis (= S. adenotrichius). Our taxonomic treatment includes a key to the newly defined infrageneric taxa, keys to species of each subseries and an updated species list for the subseries, as well as incongruences found between morphological and previous molecular analysis. In addition, an illustration of trichomes and colour figures of representative species, are provided.
