<p>The energy transition not only involves converting the electricity and heating supply of private households and public buildings to renewable energies but also entails significant changes in industry. Energy-intensive industrial sectors in particular, including the steel industry, are planning to use green hydrogen in the future. Green hydrogen is produced using renewable energies and is therefore considered climate neutral. The aim in Germany is to increase the use of green hydrogen in various industrial processes. However, the production of green hydrogen is very energy intensive and renewable energies are also required in other sectors. It is therefore currently unclear to what extent green hydrogen will be available globally and when. This article presents the results of a&#xa0;research project that focuses on hydrogen transformation in the steelworks of the federal state of Bremen. The key findings show that the hydrogen transformation of the steelworks is associated with considerable uncertainties. Qualitative interviews with key players in Bremen’s industrial hydrogen transformation were used to identify the stakeholder landscape and their objectives and challenges in transforming the steelworks. The results show that the stakeholders are confronted with a&#xa0;variety of challenges and uncertainties that are blocking the transformation.</p>
