<p>The transformation of working and housing lifestyles, consumer behavior, technological progress, and last but not least, the coronavirus pandemic, have accelerated the rise of so-called on-demand online grocery delivery services. They advertise groceries delivery at short notice (&lt; 60 min), with a&#xa0;limited range of products and smaller quantities. The business model combines features of e‑commerce with innovations for the ‘last mile’ of delivery and is subsumed under the term Q‑(quick-)commerce. Essential components are (inner) city warehouses (also known as dark stores, micro/smart warehouses, last-mile hubs, or hyper-local micro-fulfillment centers). This article investigates the tangible building structures of this business model within urban spaces based on three companies Gorillas, Getir, and Flink. The locations and location systems of these warehouses, their catchment areas, and spatial embeddings in existing urban structures are examined based on selected criteria, using Berlin as an example. This is done based on a&#xa0;mixed-methods approach, incorporating various quantitative (inspection, mapping, geodata analysis) and qualitative (expert interviews, observations) elements on the basis of a&#xa0;primarily inductive and exploratory approach. Empirical analyses were conducted in the spring of 2022 and 2023 only including selected on-demand online grocery delivery companies and their warehouse locations. It can be shown that warehouses are located in densely populated, inner-city areas and have appropriated vacant and derelict first-floor business spaces facing the street that had various previous uses. Their locations overlap considerably with locations of short-term rental listings and start-ups, but are neither oriented to the existing retail center hierarchy nor the social status of the planning areas and/or the local household purchasing power.</p>
