Purpose <p>Patients with lung cancer, the world’s second most common cancer, often face significant concerns regarding their sexual health, which is crucial to their quality of life but frequently overlooked in treatment and research. This systematic review aimed to assess the current literature on the impact of lung cancer on sexual health.</p> Methods <p>From 1058 articles identified in our database, 10 met our criteria for inclusion, focusing specifically on sexual health in lung cancer, and reporting findings from 9 distinct studies. Information relevant to our research question was extracted using the PRISMA method, and the articles were evaluated with the Crowe Critical Appraisal Tool (CCAT). This review has been registered with PROSPERO (n° CRD42023469593).</p> Results <p>Our findings indicate that lung cancer significantly impairs patients’ sexual health across several domains, including sexual function, sexual satisfaction, and communication about sexual issues. Notably, the existing literature predominantly addresses the experiences of young, male, heterosexual patients and couples. The influence of age, gender, treatments, and mood disorders is discussed.</p> Conclusion <p>The reviewed studies underscore the necessity for healthcare professionals to initiate conversations about sexuality with patients with lung cancer at various stages of their treatment. This study shows that lung cancer and its treatment have a significant impact on patients’ sexual health and overall quality of life, as is the case for other cancers.</p>
