Purpose <p>The aim of this study is to analyze the changes in blood pressure after esophagectomy and the postoperative metabolic factors of esophageal cancer patients with and without combined hypertension.</p> Methods <p>Case data of 203 patients with esophageal cancer treated by esophagectomy were retrospectively collected. Patients were divided into 51 cases in the combined hypertension group and 152 cases in the uncomplicated hypertension group according to whether they had preoperative combined hypertension or not. A total of 102 patients were included after propensity score matching (PSM), including 51 cases in the combined hypertension group (Group A) and 51 cases in the uncomplicated hypertension group (Group B). Changes in postoperative blood pressure and metabolic factors in both groups after PSM were analyzed. Metabolic factors include BMI, fasting blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL, LDL, uric acid, and total protein.</p> Result <p>After PSM, significant decreases in systolic blood pressure values occurred at 1&#xa0;month postoperatively, 3&#xa0;months postoperatively, and 6&#xa0;months postoperatively compared to baseline data in Group A. Significant decreases in systolic blood pressure values occurred at 1&#xa0;month postoperatively and 6&#xa0;months postoperatively compared to baseline data in Group B. The BMI at 6&#xa0;months postoperatively in Group A patients, LDL and HDL levels changed significantly compared to baseline data. Patients in group B had significant changes in BMI, triglycerides, LDL, total protein, albumin, and HDL levels at 6&#xa0;months postoperatively compared to baseline data. There was no significant difference in blood pressure and metabolic factors between group A and group B.</p> Conclusion <p>Esophagectomy can effectively reduce the blood pressure level of patients with esophageal cancer and has a certain alleviating effect on patients with combined hypertension. Esophagectomy significantly improved the mean values of BMI, LDL, and HDL but had no significant effect on fasting blood glucose and uric acid levels.</p>

Purpose
