<p>This position statement presents the recommendations of the Austrian Diabetes Association for the management of patients with diabetes during inpatient stay and in the perioperative setting. These recommendations are based on current evidence with respect to glucose targets, insulin therapy and treatment with oral/injectable antihyperglycemic agents during hospitalization and in perioperative setting. Additionally, it discusses special situations such as intravenous insulin therapy, concomitant therapy with glucocorticoids and use of diabetes technology during hospitalization and the perioperative setting.</p>
