摘要

Efficient sediment management measures require precise knowledge of the quantity and characteristics of the deposited material. The performance of parametric sub-bottom profilers (SBP) for detecting sediment structures was investigated in three water bodies with significantly different geological bed compositions. The focus was on the methodological development and optimization of the object-specific preprocessing of acquired signals (regularization and structure-oriented filtering), rule-based interpretation (sequence stratigraphic approach), and mapping of geometrically connected sediment facies. Sediment cores and freeze-cores taken at specific points served as references and for evaluating the geophysical results. Using this approach, seven different sediment packages within the outer basin and three within the Möll channel were identified. In the Mürz, five different sediment layers were mapped in the Schaldorf reservoir, and in the Danube, eleven different stratigraphic units were mapped in the Hundsdorf project area.
