摘要

When extracting water from rivers, reservoirs or storage basins, there is a risk that fish may enter the intake structures and subsequently be injured by turbines or pumps. The demand for effective fish protection is increasingly being raised both by legislative requirements and by operators themselves, in order to ensure an environmentally sustainable hydropower use. Due to operational requirements of the screening systems, fine screens for fish protection are difficult to implement and costly. A practical solution for fish protection at intake structures is offered by hybrid barriers in the form of electrified bar screen with moderate bar spacing. The combination of physical barriers in the form of bar screens with electric fields that serve as behavioral barriers for fish represents a promising technology. Its effectiveness has been tested in extensive scientific studies and has already been implemented in pilot installations.
