摘要

Waste management is taken into account in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations through several specific targets and indicators. Biogenic waste plays a significant role in waste management. On the one hand, due to its large volume and potential for emissions, especially when untreated waste is landfilled. On the other hand, due to its energy and nutrient potential. It is therefore essential to collect biogenic waste and treat it accordingly. For some time now, there has been an increase in the development and use of small appliances for the collection and treatment of biowaste in the household sector, with the promise of making collection and treatment more hygienic and odour-free. In addition to appliances that do not require electricity, there are various appliances on the market, some of which have a high energy demand, with different objectives and functions, such as cooling biowaste, drying or even “rapid composting”. Such “rapid composters” and dryers have recently also been increasingly advertised for the catering sector. The aim of “rapid composters” is to produce a “compost” or an environmentally friendly product in a short period of time and thus reduce both the volume of stored waste (and the associated disposal costs) and odours. Such appliances from the household sector and small appliances from the catering sector were examined and evaluated. In addition to determining the handling of such appliances, the objective was to examine the functionality and, in the case of small appliances for the household sector, also to conduct an ecological assessment of the appliances.
