The European University on Responsible Consumption and Production—EURECA-PRO is an alliance that unites nine universities from eight European countries. Together they form a multidisciplinary network with strong expertise in both production and consumption-related fields. The alliance is closely linked to Sustainable Development Goal 12, which focuses on sustainable consumption and production patterns — a core part of EURECA-PRO’s mission. Its activities integrate education, research, innovation, and societal engagement to promote systemic sustainability transformations. EURECA-PRO aims to foster awareness of responsibility at individual and institutional levels while contributing to the long-term transformation of the European Higher Education Area. Providing a foundation for innovative educational and research approaches, it seeks to align higher education with societal needs. Its long-term vision is to become a leading pan-European hub for interdisciplinary research and education in responsible consumption and production, as well as a model for transnational university cooperation and societal integration. As part of EURECA-PRO’s ambition to foster closer research collaboration among its partner universities and beyond, flagship academic communities have been developed. The flagship concept is a strategic approach guided by multidisciplinary academic communities. These multidisciplinary communities aim to generate and disseminate knowledge on specific issues related to one of the five strategic challenges of EURECA-PRO, which focuses on promoting Responsible Consumption and Production (RCP).
