<p>Understanding and developing new materials is key to future technologies and maintaining global competitiveness in Austria. This is particularly valid in research areas such as quantum technologies, microelectronics, energy conversion and storage, lightweight construction applications, medical technology, and aviation. In addition to experimental investigations, accompanying modeling and simulation of material behavior are increasingly being used for this purpose. With its wide range of study programs, international research excellence, and close industry collaborations, the Montanuniversität Leoben offers the ideal conditions for mastering today’s technological challenges. In order to enhance cooperation of researchers in the manifold fields of materials science within the Montanuniversität Leoben as well as with external partners, the Cluster of Excellence Materials was launched at the beginning of 2026.</p>
