<p>To achieve Austria’s climate targets, a&#xa0;solid data foundation and reliable facts are essential for political and economic decision-makers to implement strategic initiatives. The CaCTUS project addresses existing knowledge gaps regarding the realistic potential of CO<sub>2</sub> capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) in Austria and examines its technical and economic implications for the established climate goals.</p><p>As part of the project, existing and future carbon sources as well as potential sinks for 2040 and 2050 were identified and quantified in collaboration with stakeholders from industry and government ministries. Based on this, source-to-sink pathways were evaluated from techno-economic and legal perspectives to identify cost-efficient and competitive solutions for Austria’s ‘hard-to-abate’ emissions. Finally, recommendations for the implementation of CCUS technologies, legal frameworks, and potential impacts were summarized in policy briefs for decision-makers.</p>

To achieve Austria’s climate targets, a solid data foundation and reliable facts are essential for political and economic decision-makers to implement strategic initiatives.
