Eine stark korrodierte Römische Münze aus Kupfer-Blei von Carnuntum

A heavily corroded Roman copper coin from Carnuntum, Austria, was examined. It could be a coin showing the Emperor Gratian or the Emperor Magnus Maximus. A special feature of the coin is that it is made of a copper-lead alloy, without any other alloying elements.
A pronounced longitudinal structure and a fine copper structure suggest that no further annealing treatment was carried out after the coin blank was produced.
Last but not least, the formation of PbCl2 due to corrosion was proven.
