Bronze Gewandbesatzteile aus Brandbestattungen vom Fundort Inzersdorf ob der Traisen

In Inzersdorf ob der Traisen, Austria, some bronze parts were found in cremations from the late Bronze Age (ca. 1300–800 BC). These were mostly garment trimmings that had undergone changes during cremation. Several curved bronze plates (so-called “Buckelchen”) were examined, which were probably sewn onto a shroud or various items of clothing. The pieces were first examined using micro-computer tomography to identify areas with advanced corrosion. Afterwards they were examined by metallography.

The initial state of the Bronze Age metals is not known, but significant differences in the structure of the individual parts were found, which indicate the respective temperature effects during cremation. It was also proven that the bronze partially melted during cremation.
