Simulation-based Participatory Technology Development for Rural Enterprises

  • Marcelo Precoppe

摘要

This research explored using simulation-based participatory technology development to create postharvest technologies for rural enterprises. Participatory design methods and multiphysics simulation were employed throughout the engineering design process, with a local food processing centre and a local equipment manufacturer involved at every stage. This collaborative approach led to the development of a new peeling machine, hammer mill, and press, which demonstrated significant improvements in energy efficiency and throughput compared to existing technologies. The results underscore the effectiveness of simulation-based participatory design in developing contextually appropriate and sustainable technologies for small-scale rural businesses in low-income countries.
